UK-based residential property buyer, National Property Trade, has spoken out about the impact that the Covid-19 epidemic has had on vulnerable communities, bringing particular attention to the care homes throughout the nation.
In a recent article, Cormac Henderson, the co-founder and head chairman of National Property Trade, spoke to the increased risk of carers become carriers between their patients and through their children due to a lack of sufficient testing. In response to the increased danger faced by both carers and their clients/patients, he has highlighted several solutions the government should look more closely at.
Chief amongst the proposals is a supportive retirement community act to replace the landlord and tenant act in the case of properties housing care receivers. Other solutions outlined included the increased use of community-based information, such as the recently rolled-out mobile app in Singapore that allows users to track and share infections and symptoms anonymously. He also mentioned a collective senior living public affairs strategy, including lobbying for the more widespread testing of residents and families, and increased investment in health and safety equipment.
“At a design level, architects must rethink communal spaces in a medical and social capacity – can shared waiting rooms offer a safe environment?” Henderson stated in a recent article.
The team at National Property Trade are exploring their own options to allow for safer housing, such as exploring home sale and move services that decrease the risk of contagion by selling homes without viewings and inspections. This strategy is designed to help moves take place over days past completion, to keep property sales convenient while avoiding unnecessary human touchpoints in an HSE-compliant manner.
Cormac Henderson and the team at National Property Trade will continue to look at options to make vulnerable communities such as seniors and care-receivers safer, while also ensuring the long-term survival of the property sector. They aim to continue lobbying and advising the government on their proposed strategies.
